the hardest part

So I was sitting around thinking about the recent Jennifer Hudson tragedy a couple days ago. It occurred to me that celebrity is absolutely ridiculous. People die everyday, horrible things happen to families every day. Just because Jennifer Hudson was given an Oscar and was on American Idol, everyone needs to pay special attention to her? That's ridiculous. I'm not saying this isn't a tragic, I'm saying America leans on celebrity far too much.

Maybe this is a public mourning for every tragedy like this that has occurred. Maybe all of these tears and prayers are meant for everyone who has lost someone to this kind of brutal crime, or for that matter, lost someone at all. If that's so, it has some merit at least.

a year goes by and....

a lot changes. Crazy how I made a couple (rash?) big decisions a year ago and my life started to go a different direction then I had originally planned. 18 years of planning gone within 5 minutes. So here I am, almost exactly a year from that date, 2400 miles from where I was, 3000 miles from where I wanted to go. And I'm happy. I'm in a big beautiful city, where people don't hold anything against me and where I feel completely welcome. But I can't help but look one year back and wonder.

The Formal Update Thing

Well, having not updated for a while, I figured I should. Here are the things that have occured in my life that I feel are worth blogging about:

John Mayer concert, July 21st.
I wanted to wait a while to post about this one so I wouldn't be some giddy fan writing "OMG JOHN MURR IS SO HAWT". Thus here I am, giving my formal opinion on Mr. Mayer's live show. Almost two weeks later, I can still say he is far and away the best live performer I have seen. He loves his fans, and he shows it. He was extremely happy to be in SLC, which confused me to no ends. He sauntered around the stage, he gave each solo a different take then i'd previously heard, which was an absolute joy for my ears. This guy can truly play the guitar. He joked with the fans, and thank God he said the "F" word. It was on the last song before the encore, and I would have been dissapointed if he hadn't said it. More enjoyable, I took my friend Chad with me. Chad is a metal fan. Chad is now a John Mayer fan. I also made ammends with an old friend, which is good. Overall, the best night of my summer so far.

My Birthday, July 31st

Birthdays haven't been a big deal for since I was 12, I hadn't planned on doing anything except going out to dinner with the guys, shooting the shit, sharing inside jokes. Well it turns out my expectations got blown out of the water. I had an incredible day. It was just an all around fun and happy Birthday. And I got exactly what I wanted, and I got it around 1 so I was in a good mood for the entire day.

My Upcoming Move To Boston

Yep, the wheels are in motion. I'm finally moving to Boston. I say finally because I've had other oppurtunities to go, but have yet to man up to it. This time it's legit, I've got my road tip from Provo to Boston all planned out, with places to stay and estimated gas costs. I'm truly excited to go, the idea of meals and becoming my sisters personal bitch are extremely inviting. So I move August 24th, and I'll be in Boston by the 28th :).

I Support the World

of Warcraft.

That's right, I'm going public people. I play WoW (World of Warcraft for those R-tards who don't know). That being said, I'm here to plead my case.

[For those of you not informed, World of Warcraft is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) that consists of over 10 million players.]

Now, having been a loving member of the Blizzard (the company that makes WoW) family since Warcraft 1 (I believe it was my sisters friend who bought the game for my brother Travis) I was well aware of the preparation/release of World of Warcraft. Unfortunately, I was busy having a life at the time, so I didn't dive into the game at release(to be honest, when I wasn't out with my girlfriend I was playing Warcraft 3). The game had been out for almost 3 years before two things happened. 1) I started working at Home Depot, where no less than 10 of my coworkers played WoW and 2) The episode of Southpark titled "Make love, not Warcraft" came out. Thus my adventures in the World of Warcraft began.

It turns out I'd perfectly time my arrival into the world, the expansion pack entitled "The Burning Crusade" would be arriving shortly. So I began my adventures and got used to the mechanics and social aspects of the game. I started out Horde (one of the two factions you can chose from (the other is Alliance)), due to the prods of my coworkers. Over time I advanced my character(s) and eventually due to circumstances (I got fired from Home Depot) I had to quit playing the game. Enter new job: Chrysalis. After a couple months, I discovered a couple of my new coworkers also played WoW. Fast forward two months and I've started playing again, this time I played for the Alliance. After starting my new work schedule (I still work about the same thing), I was able to play WoW at work...for no less then 10 hours a shift. After about a month I had reached level 60 (which was at the time incredible). Then after another month or so, I again reached the point where I stopped played. A few months rolled by, and I started playing at work again, albeit on my bosses account. Once again, I decided to start over again, having recruited a friend to play with me. This brings me today, as I ride around with my level 70 Troll Shaman.

Having explained my history in WoW, I will now explain why I play. It's really simple actually.

I work an 18 hour shift, 10 of which hours the clientele I supervise are asleep. Simply put, what the hell else can I do? I'll answer my own question: Nothing. Let's put this into perspective for you all. I've watched all 7+ seasons of Scrubs, 12+ seasons of Southpark, 3+ seasons of the Office, 3 seasons of Arrested Development, 4 seasons of Entourage, and 2+ seasons of The Venture Brothers. Not to mention at least 30 different films ranging from The Lion King to There Will Be Blood. I also managed to re-read the Harry Potter series and The Wheel of Time Series, not to mention start and finish the Twilight series, plus a bundle of other books (plug for I Am America, and So Can You!(love you Colbert)). Having said all that, I have put 25 days, 15 hours, 4 minutes and 58 seconds into Kyter (my character on WoW). That's accumulated hours people.


All that said, I love playing this game. I don't have to worry about impressing anyone, and I can do pretty much whatever I want. Shout out to Vindicated and all my guildies.
